Why Choose Gun Control

Gun control statistics
Gun control is an issue that has been talked about a great deal lately. Whether the media is airing another article on the alarming, and growing, trend involving people and the use of guns when committing acts of mass violence or if it involves parents trying to find the best words that are designed to help explain such acts to their children in such a way that will not frighten them unnecessarily, the issue of gun control is not far behind. It is events such as these that make many people more pro gun control than ever before. Unlike other implements that can, and are, used to harm people, guns are the only items that are made solely to kill. Even implements such as knives, hammers and the like have other uses that do not involve maiming, killing or otherwise harming people and other living beings. It is gun control statistics such as these that many proponents cite as additional reasons to take additional measures to ensure that guns of all sorts are not owned by those people who should not own them. There are many people who argue against gun control and point out that guns do not kill people but that people kill people. While it can seem like there is a validity in their argument, it is fundamentally flawed. Guns allow people to kill other people in a much quicker way that offers them the advantage of distance, silence or any number of other advantages that are not really afforded the user by other types of weapons. Many of the crimes that are committed are done so by people who have gained access to guns when they should not have been able to do so. Stricter regulations will help to close up those gaping loopholes that allow people to obtain guns when they should not have access to them in the first place.

Some people ask whether gun control articles serve any purpose. These articles have analyzed the gun control pros and cons thoroughly. Gun control articles have been keeping the gun control debate alive in the media. But considering the fact that almost all issues relating to gun control have been so thoroughly discussed both in gun control articles and other forums, the question may arise as to whether we need any more of these articles. However, I feel that gun control articles are needed till the time our lawmakers decide to bring in strong gun control laws. Though all the issues regarding gun control might have been discussed already, we find that more and more gun control facts are coming out every day. With gun violence remaining unabated, it is only natural that gun crime statistics get updated almost continuously. Gun control articles take up the task of presenting the issue in the background of updated gun control facts. Apart from listing new data relating to gun death statistics, gun control articles also analyze the information and arrive at the appropriate conclusions. For example, statistics show that nearly 40 percent of the children know where their parents keep the guns in their houses. A gun control article will discuss the consequence of children getting the guns in their hands and will make the readers understand the need for imposing reasonable restrictions on gun ownership. Rather than just reporting that studies have revealed that in areas that have a large number of guns, the suicide rates are high, a gun control article essay will point out that this information goes against the argument of the pro gun lobby that gun ownership will give protection to the family members of the gun owners. The fact that every year about 10,000 people die of gun violence in the United States can be used to strengthen the case for gun control. Another shocking fact that may be used by these articles is that the US is ranked worse than South Africa if the number of gun deaths per 100,000 people is computed and compared for different countries. Apart from discussing gun control facts, the gun control articles also expose the unethical actions of the people opposing gun control, like some legislators loyal to the NRA (National Rifles Association) making rules blocking the National Institute of Health from even studying gun violence.

Pro Gun Control Advocates Point to Staggering Gun Control Statistics

Those in favor of stronger gun control laws have gun control statistics on their side. But for every pro gun control person, there is an anti gun control person with other gun control statistics that support their theories and feelings. This hotly debated topic will continue its reign as the No. 1 discussion in the entire country right now, with gun control statistics thrown around on both sides of this debate. Until Congress or the president makes a decision and carries through with it, though, we are stuck with our current gun control laws, whether we like them or not. On the side in favor of stronger laws, gun control statistics help prove the theory that most people who are buying guns illegally are the ones causing the most destruction around the country. Gun experts have thrown out the concept that 1 percent of the gun industry is run illegally and by some pretty shady people who are unconcerned about where the guns they sell end up, and on the other side of the counter are the people who want to truly hurt others. Most people who buy guns through the proper means today use them for legal purposes like hunting and for protection, as is their Second Amendment right. However, for that small segment of the national populous who wants to do harm and who chooses to purchase guns through illegal and amoral means rather than through the proper channels there still remain plenty of opportunities to do so. Gun control laws are hardly enforced, and so people like those who have made headlines over the past year or so have obtained firearms with the intent to harm and kill. And most of them should never have had the chance to purchase or pick up a gun. For those still wanting stronger measures to protect people from guns, gun control statistics paint a picture of a world in which people are continually living in fear. Guns are too easy to get, they are too simple to purchase, and it is entirely too easy to get around the system, which is not even watching anyway. The government agency charged with overseeing the sale and purchase of guns has little actual control over any type of enforcement here; and until that day comes, the department will have its hands tied, and so will people trying to sell guns through legal channels.

The Gun Control Debate

Gun control
Everyday it seems the news airwaves are filled with another story about yet another senseless act of violence involving a gun. These stories, which seem to be occurring with increasing frequency, add fuel to the already highly emotional pro gun control versus no gun control debate. Nearly every person has an opinion on pro gun control or anti gun control. And of those with an opinion, many want to voice it. Pro gun control proponents bring into question the rights of gun owners. As a result, gun advocacy organizations and lobbyists such as the National Rifle Association (and its lobbyist branch, the Institute of Legislative Action) and Gun Owners of America are fighting for what they deem as the rights of gun owners and American citizens. Gun control statistics are interesting and mixed, depending on which side of the argument you are on. In a 2010 survey, there were between 47 and 53 million American households with a gun. That equates to approximately 70 to 80 million gun owners. The basis of the pro gun control argument is if guns are outlawed, then nobody could get killed with a gun. Conversely, those who are not pro gun control argue that even if guns were outlawed, criminals would still find a way to get access to firearms. Those opposed to pro gun control measures also claim that limiting the rights of firearms owners is a serious violation of our Constitutional rights, specifically, the second amendment (the rights of people to keep and bear arms). In addition to aiming to protect the second amendment, gun advocacy groups are also trying to fight legislation that imposes more gun control and also fight for legislation that prevents people from frivolously suing the firearms industry. Pro gun control and their opponents cite statistics to strengthen their arguments. For example, pro gun control advocates correlate our lax gun laws with the fact that the homicide rate in the United States is 6.9 times higher than it is in 22 other high income, high population countries combined. On the other hand, gun control opponents show a relationship between states that allow citizens to carry concealed weapons and crime rates. According to this research, states that have conceal carry laws have a markedly lower crime and murder rate. A 60 percent decrease in multiple victim public shootings.

What can we expect to find in a gun control essay? If we care to go through a gun control essay and identify its components rather than browse through it cursorily, we fill find that the essay performs several functions. First of all, a gun control article will contain a number of facts and figures. These figures will definitely include gun crime statistics and other related gun control facts. Second, the essay will analyze the gun control pros and cons and indicate what conclusions can be drawn from them. The gun control essay may either explicitly give its judgment about the gun control debate or it may stop with providing a detailed analysis of gun death statistics and other relevant information and allow the readers to make their own judgments. The gun control facts a good gun control essay presents can be about the results of gun control measures in other countries. For example, the essay can reveal the fact that countries that have a smaller number of guns have reported a smaller number of guns. By way of analyzing this information, the gun control essay can compare this with the claim made by some pro gun ownership groups in the United States that having a large number of guns will be an insurance against crime. Australia’s experience in bringing down gun violence by 60 percent after the country implemented strong gun control laws can be cited. Apart from discussing gun control facts and providing an in depth analysis of these facts, the gun control essay will also examine the reaction of both the supporters and opponents of gun control. While people who support gun control have been presenting their case using facts and logical arguments, the opponents, at least some of them, have been showing themselves to be adamant and unreasonable. For example, the NRA (National Rifles Association), the leading player of the anti gun control team has been saying that it will not accept any compromise on this issue. Citing this, the gun control essay can portray the NRA as a highly paid lobby rather than an association of sportsmen, as claimed by it. The gun control essay also has a duty to expose the bias of the legislators who have been showing their loyalty to the NRA by creating rules that will come in the way of independent organizations like the National Institute of Health studying gun violence.

Statistics Support the Case for Stronger Gun Control

Like every issue, gun control also has two sides. There are some people, who, on the basis of gun death statistics present a strong case for making gun control laws tighter. There are also some other people who believe that owning a gun is their birthright and no law can take that right away from them. The gun control debate incorporating these two views has been going on for long. Though it is well established that the case for a stricter gun control regime is much stronger than the other side, the issue is still hanging in balance because our lawmakers have been unable or unwilling to take the initiative for a strong gun control act. Gun crime statistics are replete with information supporting the need for strong gun control. If we look at the number of guns owned by people in the United States, we will be apt to be distressed. With 89 guns for every 100 people living in our country, the ratio is almost one gun for everyone! What can we say of a society in which almost every one has a gun, on an average? The one unmistakable message delivered by this data is that it is high time that some action was taken on the gun control front. We have the experience of many countries showing that implementing strong gun control measures has a salutary effort on gun violence. The good news is that gun control laws prevent not only murders but also suicides. People who have been analyzing gun control pros and cons should understand that of all the murder weapons, the gun is the most handy and the easiest to use. That is why gun ownership leads to increase in crime not in decrease in crime as claimed by the pro gun lobby. People who oppose gun control do not have any convincing argument to support their side. Instead of participating in the gun control debate, they resort to lobbying. The NRA (National rifles Association), the leader of the anti gun control group, though considered a political organization, functions like a lobbyist group, in practice.

Gun control
Gun control has forever been discussed in politics and in the government. It seems that every couple of years, or whenever a big political battle is taking place, the topic of gun control comes up again and again. We know that America needs to have a clearer cut picture and understanding of what gun control means and what laws will be in place about ownership use followed by the educational purposes that people needs to be in accordance with on gun control before we can move on from the issue. Gun Control statistics are beginning to point at the danger more heavily. While America does allow certain citizens to utilize guns, we are finding that somehow that power is either abused or it the gun itself ends up in the hands of the wrong person. While the Constitution states that we as Americans reserve the right to bear arms, we find that those that oppose the use of guns by civilians will point to the tragic situations. The use of guns has increased rapidly in the last twenty years. Now we are seeing guns getting in the hands of children and young adults that never had a gun registered to them. This is resulting in suicide, homicide, and the loss of many innocent lives because someone who should not have had a gun had their hands on one. Gun control opponents feel that the mentally ill are the ones who are committing these crimes, and therefore they are to blame rather than the gun itself. Those that are pro gun control feel that the way the gun is abused that makes it dangerous. Gun control does not control the usage; rather it just more lawyers to getting the gun for the determined individual. Many use guns for hunting trips, but a large population of Americans are using guns as defense mechanisms in their hope to protect them from outside intruders or a home invasion. Many people live in fear, and they feel a gun will protect them. With guns being so accessible, it makes it so that if one cannot get a gun from a particular bureau, they will fight tooth and comb or they will find someone who has one that will loan it to them. With this in mind, we must figure out what the root of the gun control issues is all about.
